Piano Lessons at London School of Art
London School of Art is an award-winning performing arts school that contracts professional, experienced tutors to work within the school. All instrument lessons are one-to-one and take place on the school's premises or online. Instrument lessons are available seven days a week, after school, and on weekends.
The piano is one of our most popular classical and acoustic instruments. It’s perfect for young learners as well as students of any age group. For total beginners, we follow an amazing syllabus developed by our experienced and qualified piano teachers over the years, which we know works effectively with all learning styles. If you already have some experience playing the piano and want to learn specific songs or styles, we can tailor lessons to fit your needs while ensuring progress through the essential fundamentals to become a well-rounded musician.
You can choose to learn piano for fun or work towards Grade exams. Grade programs are designed for students with 2-3 years of piano experience who have passed late beginner levels.
Examinations can be an extremely motivating and positive experience for students when approached correctly. We understand that exams are important not just for assessing skill levels but also for school points students may earn. However, exams should not be the sole focus of a musician’s education. We do not ‘fast track’ students through exams by compromising on the development of strong musical foundations.
Grade exams require a high level of commitment through regular practice, as well as strong parental involvement. It is the parent's responsibility to encourage and monitor their child’s practice at home. A minimum of 20 minutes, four times a week, is required. As students progress to higher grades, more practice time will be necessary.
We primarily work with the ABRSM exam board, but we can also prepare students for Trinity or LCM exams upon request.
Prep Test
"Working towards this early goal encourages the development of good technique and sound musicianship. The Prep Test is also an ideal introduction to the experience of taking an exam!"
We have developed the Prep Test to be as relaxed and fun as possible. No marks are awarded, and there is no pass or fail. At the end of the assessment, every candidate is rewarded with a certificate that includes positive and helpful comments from the examiner.
The Prep Test is designed to provide an initial assessment for students while encouraging the development of strong musical and technical foundations before entering graded exams.
The test includes all the essential skills beginners develop at this stage, such as:
- A sense of pitch and rhythm
- Controlled and even playing
- Accuracy and quality of tone
- The basics of musical perception
More details can be found on the ABRSM website.
