Dance into Excellence with the London School of Art's Ballet Program
Ballet isn't just dance—it's a perfect blend of fitness and art that teaches hard work, discipline, and dedication. At the London School of Art, we nurture the next generation of dancers from an early age, setting them up for success in ballet and beyond.
Why Ballet?
Ballet is the foundation of many other dance genres, including jazz, modern, lyrical, and contemporary. It’s rooted in classic academic dancing, based on the five positions of the feet, and has evolved since the 17th century from court dances.
Baby Ballet: Start Young, Shine Bright
Our Baby Ballet classes are designed for the youngest dancers to build confidence, social skills, manners, discipline, and respect. From basic ballet technique to coordination, musicality, balance, and rhythm, every child can thrive in a fun and nurturing environment.
Pre-Primary & Primary in Dance: A Strong Foundation
Our Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance programs develop physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression, posture, and musicality. These classes lay the groundwork for transitioning to higher levels in ballet and other dance genres, following the RAD’s graded examination syllabus. This pathway leads to Grade 1 and above.
Grade 1-5: Building Technique and Creativity
Classes from Grade 1 to Grade 5 focus on classical ballet exercises to enhance good posture, weight transfer, leg and feet stretch, and controlled landings. Free movement steps and character dance from around the globe allow children to explore various patterns and rhythms, fostering creativity and expression.
Advanced Grades & Pointe Work: Mastery and Beyond
As students advance to Grade 6 and beyond, they are encouraged to take two classes a week. Basic pointe work is introduced at this level, though it's not required for RAD Grades 6-8 examinations. Higher grades are suitable for recreational dancers, those continuing dance training, or those aiming for a dance career. These classes offer a blend of Classical, Free Movement, Character, and Pointe work.
Commitment to Excellence
Classes range from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Students may be entered for Graded exams after 3-5 terms of study and are encouraged to attend classes twice a week if possible. Our approach ensures students develop a solid foundation while enjoying the journey of dance.
