Mungo began playing the violin through the Hampshire Music Service and later became leader and co-leader of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. He completed his undergraduate degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he studied with Andre Swanepoel, Rebecca Jones and Alex Thorndike before graduating with first class honours. Mungo is now completing a Master's degree as a scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Matthew Jones.
Mungo has received coaching from the Gould Trio, Quator Agate, the Endellion Quartet, the Brodsky Quartet, the Consone Quartet and the Tippet Quartet as well as playing in masterclasses for Timothy Ridout and Sarah-Jane Bradley. In 2022 he was appointed co-leader of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and has appeared as a soloist with local orchestras in his hometown. He has represented the RWCMD with the Bevan String Quartet at the 2023 International CAVATINA Chamber Music Competition at Wigmore Hall and has been nominated by the GSMD for the John Fussle Award and the St James’ Prize.
In the past year, Mungo has been awarded an emerging artist's fellowship at the Buxton International Festival where he performed opera and chamber music by Haydn, Puccini and Mozart. As well as a performer and teacher he also enjoys expanding the repertoire for the viola by arranging and transcribing and has so far built a portfolio of music by Janacek, Zemlinsky, Robert Schumann, Chausson and Rubbera.
